Silk Scrunchies

Art of Silk Museum

Author: Athina Ketsitzi – Athanasia Tsiakiri

Silk scrunchies made from leftovers from the production of silk clothing and accessories. The large-scale production of silk accessories results in small pieces of silk fabric being thrown away, unsuitable for sewing clothes or accessories. With these pieces, in the context of reuse and circular economy, we created a series of silk fashion accessories based on local silk production, thus reducing the environmental footprint of silk production.

About Aracne Virtual Silk Exhibition

This virtual exhibition invites you to explore the ARACNE project, a European initiative dedicated to safeguarding and revitalizing silk heritage. Here, you can discover how ARACNE connects history, culture, and innovation—sharing stories, research, and activities that trace silk’s journey across Europe. The site highlights not just the rich legacy of silk production but also present-day efforts to create a modern European Silk Route, linking communities and inspiring a renewed appreciation for traditional skills and creative industry.
